Rep. Faust has been an effective leader for the past two years in the House. He knows the issues and and his voting record shows he has voted in the best interest of the folks of District 8B. Our schools have especially benefited from his role in increasing school funding, and we will continue to benefit from his intelligent and thoughtful leadership if he is elected to another term. I intend to work for his re-election because he is the best candidate to represent District 8B.

I worked on an extremely important bill with Representative Faust last year. As past president of the Minnesota Administrators for Special Education (MASE) organization, I was also the Chair of the Legislative Committee. Representative Faust introduced a bill for the MASE organization to assist us in keeping Special Education regulations in Minnesota from expanding. Over the years, special education regulation has become costly to school districts and burdensome for teachers, whose desires are to work with students, not complete an enormous amount of paper work. Representative Faust introduced a bill that would require the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) to follow the rule-making process before creating new law. His work on this bill was incredible. MASE member, such as myself are grateful to Rep. Faust for his tireless efforts to get our bill through the legislature. When Commission Seagren expressed concern about the bill, Representative Faust agreed to work with the Commissioner and the schools to resolve their issues. As a result, the Commissioner agreed to withdraw some rather onerous proposed rules that would have added addition costs to the schools and would have dramatically increased paperwork responsibilities for teachers. Since special education is not fully funded, Representative Faust’s work on this bill assisted in keeping local property taxes down. This example demonstrates that Representative Faust is not just there to vote “yes” or “no” on other legislators’ work, but he actually involves himself in the tasks to keep taxes down and schools functioning well.

I am pleased to support Tim Faust's re-election to the Mn House. As a recently retired school administrator I know how devastating the budget cuts of 2003 were for all schools in Minnesota. Tim did what he could to repair that damage-given a governor who likes to veto. He certainly supports our schools more than his opponent did when she was part of the 2003 budget cuts and government shut down.

Here is an example of Tim's leadership. In his first session last year Rep. Faust managed to take the unique model developed in his area at the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED) for addressing reading underachievement and put it into law as an option for other districts. Now with a million dollar grant SCRED is training over a thousand teachers accorss Minnesota in how to improve reading instruction. Thousands of teachers are coming to our area to learn how to improve their own schools. When kids learn how to read they don’t need costly special education. Tim provided the leadership in this bi-partisan effort supported by Republicans and signed into law by the Governor.

Tim Faust cares about East Cental Minnesota. I sent him an email this past summer and recieved a call back within a matter of hours. I have a special needs child and I care about healthcare and education. It is refreshing to see passion and dedication from Tim Faust, our State Represenative. Our children are our future, let's give them the best chance we can. It all starts with caring enough to take the time to do some simple research on the people who represent us and get out and vote.
